Behind the Famous

Privacy policy

This page explains what Behind the Famous collects from visitors, and — because this is a site that writes about people — what we do about information concerning the people we write about.

If you are named on this site

You can have a page corrected or removed by asking, without giving a reason. See removal requests. We do not require identity documents and we do not keep a record of who asked.

We publish only information already on the public record, and we exclude by policy: anything about a person under eighteen; home addresses; schools; personal contact details; personal social media accounts; health, sexuality, fertility, addiction or criminal matters not established in public reporting; and estimated financial figures. Our editorial policy sets this out in full.

What we collect from visitors

Server logs. Our web server records the usual request data — IP address, page requested, time, browser string — which we use to keep the site running and to spot abuse. These are kept for a short period and are not combined with anything else.

Analytics. We measure traffic in aggregate: how many people visited, which pages, roughly where from. We do not build profiles of individual visitors.

Cookies. The site does not set advertising or tracking cookies of its own. WordPress may set a cookie if you leave a comment or log in; ordinary readers get none.

Email. If you write to us, we keep the message for as long as it takes to deal with it and for a reasonable period afterwards in case the matter comes back. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list.

Third parties

Fonts are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google when you load a page. Source links point to other websites, which have their own policies.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EU or another jurisdiction with data protection law, you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it erased. For anything on a published page, the removal process is the fastest route and we apply it to everyone regardless of where they live.

Enquiries: [email protected].

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the change will be described here rather than quietly substituted.
